English International All-Styles Taekwon-Do
What is EAIT?
English International All-Styles Taekwon-Do
EIAT is a Taekwon-Do club which has been running in various locations around London for over 40 years. In our time we have participated in and won many competitions across the UK, Europe and US.
Our classes are led by Master Anthony (Tony) Williams (7th Degree) who has more than 45 years of experience in Taekwon-Do, and has been a judge in intenrational Taekwon-Do Competitions.

What is Taewkon-Do?
The art of kicks and punches
Taekwon-Do is a Korean martial-art formalised in the 1950s by General Choi Hong-Hi, which builds on the ancient martial practices of Korea, Japan and China. Due to this heritage, Taekwon-Do is both a practical and effective martial-art that is used by the Korean military, and an ancient tradition with a rich culture and history to explore.
Tae - means to break with a kick.
Kwon - means to break with a punch.
Do - means the art.
Therefore, Taekwon-Do is literally the art of kicks and punches.
How We Train
A comprehensive syllabus for a well-rounded martial-artist and human-being.
Training is made to be approachable for everyone of all levels of fitness and experience. If you are still getting in to Taekwon-Do, then we will help you to develop at a sensible and enjoyable pace. For those of you with plenty of of experience and a high degree of fitness, we can offer a higher intensity to match your desire to grow even further.
Each session begins with a good warm-up that prepares our body for the class ahead, and also builds fitness and flexibility. Next comes pattern work, where we perform set sequences of moves to demonstrate and grow our skills. The rest of lesson will be on self-defence, technique and bag-work, sparring, and theory.
Patterns (Tul)
Patterns (known formally as 'Tul') are set sequences of kicks, punches and blocks that we practice to build and demonstrate techniques. We focus primarily on the Chang-Hong (blue cottage) series of patterns, the twenty-four patterns which form the back-bone of the International Taekwon-Do Federation (ITF) syllabus. Each pattern draws its name from from Korean history, and practicing them is as much an intellectual endeavour as a physical-one. The concentration required to master patterns acts as form of meditation as well, and there are pattern competitions for those who want to compete. EIAT has a long history of winning pattern competitions.
Self-Defence
Taewkon-Do is a self-defence art, and so it is only natural that we would study how to use our techniques in self-defence. Self-defence teaches the application of our techniques to real-world situations, and is a demonstartion of how Taekwon-Do is a prectical martial-art for the modern age.
Technique and Bag-Work
This is where we select a handfull of techniques to devote special attention to in a lesson, to build our skills in perfroming them to the best of our ability. We build power, speed and accuracy. We have a punch bag and several focus-mits to give students a feel of the contact they are making with their moves.
Sparring
Sparring is about putting all of your physicality together to show how far you have grown and to see how much more you have to learn. This is not fight-club. We spar in a safe and sensible manner, that builds technique, fitness and endurance. No one is expected to spar before they are ready, and contact is kept light to avoid injury. Those looking for a punch-up should go else-where wile those who wish to become honourable warriors will find themselves fitting in well.
Theory
EIAT embraces the uniquely Korean heritage of Taekwon-Do, and so you will learn the Korean names for our techniques, most instructions and the parts of the body used in Taewkon-Do. This is a core part of our syllabus and our understanding of this sets us apart from many other clubs. Don't worry, you will enjoy this far more than your foreign language GCSE.
